What is the 73-87 (91) GM weld on frame repair kit?

Broken frames at the steering box mounting location are very common on 1973-1991 GM straight axle 4WD trucks, this kit is used to both fix a broken frame and/or to reinforce it to keep it from breaking again.

One plate for the outside of the frame, one for the bottom. 1/8" steel plate.

Why use the Hogback fab 73-87 (91) GM weld on frame repair kit?

It is a great fix for already cracked frames and also a great preventative measure for frames that are not yet cracked. 

 How easy is it to install the steering box reinforcement bracket on my truck?

Very easy!

1. Remove stock bolts that hold steering box to the frame
2. Clean up frame with a flap wheel to get to bare metal
3. Drill holes on ends of cracks to prevent spreading
4. Clamp cracks into place and weld up
5. Grind down welds so repair plate can rest on top
6. Use your favorite method to form repair plate to match your frame (heat, hammer, clamps, etc) Note: It may take a lot of force to match.
7. Weld repair plate to frame using a stich style weld method. (Top plate in picture goes on the vertical side of frame behind steering box, bottom plate in picture goes on the horizontal underside also connecting to crossmember).
8. Put back together and drive your beast!

Can be used on '67-72 GM trucks and 2WD '67-87 GM trucks with additional heat/hammer/shaping work. Bolt pattern is the same, contours in the frame are not.
